Caliper inference

Real-time hydraulic response method to infer open hole caliper

Overview

Estimate open hole caliper with confidence through simulation

Our solution uses pressure response analysis during the circulation of a heavier conditioning fluid to deliver a fast and accurate estimate of the effective open hole diameter. By interpreting how the annular pressure behaves in real time, the module infers caliper with high reliability, removing the need for costly downhole tools and ensuring precise cement volume planning for critical casing operations.

Accurate caliper estimation ensures reliable cement height in pre-salt well

  • Module applied during surface casing cementing in a pre-salt well.
  • Inference performed using PWDa pressure response while circulating a heavier fluid.
  • Software estimated an average open hole diameter of 39” for a 26” bit section.
  • Post-cement evaluation confirmed an effective diameter of 38”.
  • Strong correlation validated the accuracy of the tool.
