Our digital twin solution accurately predicts ECD, ESD, and pumping pressure, continuously comparing it with measured data. Validated in hundreds of wells across various scenarios (conventional, MPD, MCD, pre-salt, ultra-deepwater), it determines ideal operating parameters to maintain safe pressure and prevent events like fluid losses or washouts. The system can integrate with real-time online fluid density and rheology data, improving simulation accuracy and, consequently, enhancing the ability to anticipate drilling problems, avoid non-productive time, and optimize operations.

Early detection of washouts prevents drillstring rupture

  • Real-time hydraulic simulation detected a gradual standpipe pressure drop during a complex drilling operation (18 ⅛” × 22” reamer).
  • The system alerted the 24/7 service team, who coordinated with the RTO Center and rig personnel.
  • Drilling was paused, the drillstring tripped out, and the first washout was located and repaired, avoiding rupture and significant NPT.

 

Gradual pressure drop diagnosed by our application.

 

After drill string removal, the rig crew found a fissure on a drill collar.

 

  • The next day, a second gradual pressure drop was identified and confirmed by the application, prompting another tripping operation.
  • The early detection and accurate diagnosis by the digital twin prevented drillstring rupture, saved rig hours, and reduced non-productive time (NPT).

 

A new gradual pressure drop was detected the next day.

 

The second washout was found on the 22’’ reamer.
